Pentax has announced two new compact digital cameras, the Optio T30 and the Optio M30.

Pentax Optio T30, one of the thinnest digital cameras, has 7.1 megapixel and features a 3-inch LCD monitor, a high ISO Digital Shake Reduction mode and new functions such as Face Recognition Auto Focus and Auto Exposure. [Read more…]

Pentax Corporation announced today the new Optio E30 digital camera, an entry-level model designed with beginners’ convenience in mind, which now comes with a 7.1 megapixel for exceptional high-resolution photography.

Pricing and availability for the E30 have not yet been announced.

Softer contours differentiate the Pentax Optio S7 from its predecessors, but the look remains familiar, as does the lens with its off-centre design.

The Pentax Optio S7 offers an entirely metallic body, a remarkably compact size — the body is only 19.5 mm (0.76 inch) thick when the lens is retracted — and a finishing that is second to none.

The Pentax Optio S7 has only two controls on the top right side:

* the Power Switch, slightly recessed to avoid having the camera turn on accidentally.

Pentax has unveiled prototypes of three new digital SLR lenses designed for exclusive use with Pentax digital SLR cameras. The trio of zoom models are the PENTAX-DA* 16-50mm F2.8ED AL[IF], smc PENTAX-DA* 50-135mm F2.8ED [IF] and smc PENTAX-DA* 60-250mm F4ED [IF].

The lenses have been developed for Pentax K- and *istD SLRs as premium, high-end ’star’ lenses. They will feature the Pentax KAF2 mount, which incorporates additional electrical contacts to drive a built-in supersonic motor used in auto focusing. [Read more…]

Shooting underwater images with a compact digital camera always seemed self-defeating to me. On the one hand, the beauty of a compact camera is that you can take it anywhere. On the other hand, if you want to take pictures near, in, or under the water and not ruin the advanced circuitry of your little technological marvel, you’d need to purchase a pricey and cumbersome underwater camera housing that you’re bound to forget the next time you go to the pool.
