Extended customer service for Leica Digilux 2 owners

Leica Digilux 2 Digital CameraLeica Camera AG is offering all owners of the LEICA DIGILUX 2 a customer service free of charge even beyond the stated warranty period. Specifically, this refers to exchanging the digital camera’s sensor in the case of a rarely occurring malfunction.

Leica Camera AG has opted for this extended warranty due to the fact that there have been a few reports of this malfunction caused by faulty manufacturing which also affects some other makes’ cameras.

Prolonged use of the camera in tropical climate conditions has occasionally led to effects such as black stripes in the image or even a totally black image. This malfunction can be the result of sensors whose specifications do not meet the respective Leica Camera AG production and testing standards. [Read more…]

And beside an interesting introduction of the compact camera series, and a digital SLR camera Leica unveiled their digital M camera; the Leica M8. The Leica M8 offers a resolution of 10.3 megapixels and incorporates a notably low-noise CCD image sensor has been rigorously optimized for the special features of the Leica M lens system.

The special design of the viewfinder camera with no mirror box allows the typically compact and flat shape of the Leica M to be retained. The small focal length extension factor of 1.33 enables creative freedom even in digital Leica M Photography. We discussed the new Leica M8 with Michael Agel, Press + Public relations of Leica.

Leica D-LUX 3 - a new ten megapixel camera

Leica D Lux 3 Digital CameraLeica has announced the ultra-compact D-LUX 3.

This new camera (based on the Panasonic LX-2) has a ten megapixel 16:9 ratio CCD, Leica 4x wide angle optical zoom lens (28 to 112 mm equiv.) with optical image stabilization and a 2.8″ 16:9 ratio LCD monitor. (While this camera is based on the LX-2 it has had image processing adjustments as defined by Leica).

Leica introduces the DIGILUX 3

Leica Digilux 3 Digital CameraThe third new camera from Leica is the the DIGILUX 3 (essentially a Panasonic DMC-L1). The company’s first integrated digital SLR represents something of a departure as it uses the Four Thirds system rather than Leica’s own reflex lens mount.

This camera obviously comes as a kit with the LEICA D 14 - 50 mm ASPH (F2.8 - F3.5) lens with built-in optical image stabilization. (While this camera is based on the DMC-L1 it has had image processing adjustments as defined by Leica). [Read more…]

Leica announces V-LUX 1

Leica V Lux 1 Digital CameraThe second new Leica digital camera is the V-LUX 1, clearly based on Panasonic’s DMC-FZ50 this camera has virtually identical specifications; a ten megapixel CCD, a 12x optically image stabilized lens (with mechanically linked zoom), a tilting 2.0″ LCD monitor, electronic viewfinder, flash hot-shoe and full manual controls.
